Goal of the collaboration

Help secondary-care rota managers create, manage and fill thousands of shifts within a rolling rota in a matter of minutes — instead of weeks or months.

Lantum is a UK healthcare platform that makes it easier for the NHS to mobilise its workforce, and for clinicians to work more flexibly.

The product

Templates that turn weeks of scheduling into a few clicks

01

Build a rota once

Rota managers design a rolling template — shift types, patterns and rules — instead of recreating the same weeks by hand.

02

Apply it anywhere

The same template applies to any site, staff type and period in a single flow, with the right defaults pre-filled.

03

Fill thousands of shifts at once

Shifts are generated and allocated in bulk, so months of scheduling are ready in about an hour instead of two weeks.

My contribution

  • Worked side by side with the product manager, engineers and stakeholders to take ideas from conception to production
  • Explored early-stage concepts as well as narrowly defined deliverables
  • Partnered with the product manager on research to measure impact, test ideas and validate assumptions
  • Created the research plan, ran interviews and tests
  • Designed the final UI and documentation for development
  • Took part in design reviews and improved the design system, copy, accessibility and brand application

Outcome

The rolling rota feature was released in July 2022.

  • The first 20 users needed one hour on average to create and fill a 6-month rolling rota, compared with two weeks before
  • Every secondary-care rota manager working with Lantum created and applied at least one template
“We had a very challenging deadline. Edmond was always calm, kept the focus on improving the flows, design and ways of working — his consistency in bringing new solutions was impressive.”
